From Your Commodore
It’s hard to believe that we’re already heading into a new year. I hope that this will be a wonderful year for each of you and your families. We’ll be looking for sunny days, starry nights and sooth seas.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2011 Boat Parade. The weather was perfect as evidenced by the crowds watching this year. It was great to be able to stand out on the boats in just sweatshirts! We had good media coverage and the Toys for Tots campaign was a huge success. Scott Nibblett did an excellent job of coordination this and WYC once again showed that sharing with others is the true meaning of Christmas.
There has been much discussion about improvements to the Docks and House. Stay turned for more information from our Dockmaster, Dean Murray, and Rear Commodore, Scott Nibblett. Their committees are working hard to do what needs to be done this year.
The activities for 2012 will be finalized this month so be ready to mark your calendars, so you won’t miss anything. Please remember that you don’t have to be on a committee to help. We welcome everyone to participate, and volunteers for every project and/or activity are always needed and welcomed.
YOUR COMMODORE,
Laura Lockwood
FIRST MATES CORNER
Happy New Year! This is my first message as your President and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how excited and honored I am to be a part of this team.
I love the beginning of a year, because it is a chance to start new adventures. We have lots of exciting plans in the air at the WYC! It is going to be a fun year!!
The First Mates and I are hoping you will join us at our next meeting on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Dues are only $10 per year and participating gives you a chance to contribute to our Club. I hope the New Year inspires you to get involved if you are a new member or the spouse of a new member, or to become re-engaged if you’ve been a prior First Mate. If you are interested, see Vicky Comer, Nancy Joseph, or me (I am the tall one!)
Congratulations to Suzanne Murray for winning the 50/50 on December 14, 2011 Jazz Night!
We will continue to hold 50/50′s on Jazz/Entertainment Nights, the proceeds of which will be used to sponsor a weekend night of entertainment once a quarter – get your dancing shows out!
On that note, George Bradley and his band Old Kools will be playing on January 21, 2012 at 8:00 p.m., so come on down to the Club and enjoy some Classic Rock!
Finally, I am teaming up with our Commodore to plan and coordinate the activities for the Club this year, so any ideas or suggestions you have for fun things to do would be wonderful! There have been some really great ones so far – wait and see what the February Creek News has in store!
Respectfully submitted
Wendy Riley – President – WYC First Mates
